This section is divided into 2 parts:
This section gives definitons of the key concepts of 'diversion', 'alternatives to detention' and 'restorative justice'. It includes an animated powerpoint diagram to help explain the differences and interactions between key concepts (diversion, alternatives, restorative justice and a child rights-based approach). It also includes a glossary of terms used in this toolkit.
This section provides lists of the types of initiatives which fall into the categories of diversion, alternatives and restorative justice. It also includes illustrative examples of a few different types of projects to help give an overall understanding of the concepts involved. More detailed project examples are included in the 'How do we do them?' section of the toolkit.
